While this sounds a convenient way to make sure you don’t overspend on your gas or electric bill prepayment tariffs are some of the most expensive in the market so getting rid of the prepayment meter could save you money.

If the place you live in is rented you would need to speak to your landlord about changing your meter. If you live in your own place you just need to talk to your energy supplier.

Most prepayment meters will be changed free of charge however your energy supplier will want to make sure you don’t owe them any money, may want to do a credit check and could ask for a refundable deposit.
